The arrangement of several medieval \u201ccastles\u201d, the defensive tower, manor houses, the town church and many half-timbered houses is striking and characterizes the townscape.\u00a0<\/p><p>One of the so-called castles, the Hallenburg, is now home to the State Music Academy. Other castles are Vorderburg, Hinterburg, Ottoburg and Berleburg.<\/p><p>The whole of Schlitz has about 10,000 inhabitants and consists of the core town (6,000 inhabitants) and 16 surrounding villages.<\/p><p>Until the middle of the 19th century, the city had great industrial importance due to the linen weaving mills located there. Due to its geographical location - almost exactly in the middle of Germany - the area is in demand as a hub for the logistics industry. However, these companies are all located outside the city limits, so the picturesque cityscape remains untouched.<\/p><p>Schlitz is the fourth largest city in Hesse in terms of area.
