Hallenburg Castle was built between 1705 and 1712 as a two-storey baroque castle by order of Reichsfreiherr Friedrich Wilhelm von Schlitz.

After his death, the beautiful baroque castle served as the permanent residence of the count's family until 1954 and then went to the town of Schlitz.

In 2003, the renovation and reconstruction for the Landesmusikakademie Hessen began.

The “Chinese wallpaper” in Hallenburg Castle was acquired in the early 1790s and later, during the reconstruction of the castle around 1800, was glued to the main floor.

The wallpaper is mounted on waste paper, which consists mainly of pages from a baroque funeral sermon from 1728 and old files. It was created during the time of the so-called "China fashion" of the 18th century. With the China trade (since the end of the 16th century), first porcelain, but from the second half of the 17th century also silk and paper paintings, and later also wallpaper, came to Europe and lined princely pavilions and corner cabinets.

It depicts flowering trees, various bird species and butterflies, among other things. The wallpaper was completely restored in 2001 when the State Music Academy was set up and can now be admired by visitors and guests. The wallpaper room is open to the public and you can get the key from reception during opening hours.

The castle park is an enchanting oasis of peace and beauty. With its majestic trees, picturesque ponds and winding paths, it offers a unique retreat.

The park is not only a place of relaxation, but also a cultural jewel that offers inspiration and contemplation with its hidden corners and idyllic places.
